Other Ways to Contribute

Our Wish List
Many of you ask how you can help us, and one BIG way would be to provide us with items we need to serve our children better. None of these items need to be brand new. Just in good working order. So check your closets, and see if you can help us with some of the items on our wish list:

It's a great way to start the new year.

If you can help, please contact us at 213-481-3611.

Stocks / Securities
No matter what tax bracket you are in, making gifts of appreciated stock makes sense. Tax benefits for a donor who has owned appreciated stocks for more than one year are two-fold: capital gains tax is avoided upon transfer to BBBS and the donor can receive an income tax charitable deduction for the full market value of the stock on the date of the gift. Depending on your tax bracket and the size of the gift, there may be an opportunity to carry the charitable income tax deduction over several years.

You can transfer stock or other securities to our account at Crowell Weedon.  Securities can be sent electronically using the following transmittal instructions:
        Crowell, Weedon & Co.
FBO Big Brothers Big Sisters of LA and IE
        Account #70600721 LA63
        DTC #574
Attn: David L. Bland  Direct phone line: (213) 244-9278

Please also advise us of your gift of stock by contacting:

Anja Kloch, Interim of Development at 213.481.3611, ext. 2407, or akloch@bbbslaie.org OR
Donna Gough, VP, Finances and Operations, at 213.481.3611, ext. 2432, or dgough@bbbslaie.org.

Tip - When appreciated securities are donated, you are entitled to a deduction for full value, not just the original cost.

To establish a plan, please fill out the
form below or contact Big Brothers Big Sisters at 213-481-3611, and let us know you would like to make a donation.

Bequests & Planned Giving
A planned gift allows a donor to contribute to BBBS over a period of years or as part of an estate plan. Properly designed, it can generate a charitable income tax deduction. It can be designated for a specific purpose or provide unrestricted support for BBBS's mission-directed activities. These gifts are made in the form of trusts, bequests or endowments.

If you would like more information about bequests and planned giving or the benefits of leaving a legacy to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles and the Inland Empire, please fill out the form below or contact Big Brothers Big Sisters at 213-481-3611, and let us know you would like to make a donation.

Toba Khedoori
Untitled  (2005)
1-color etching
27 3/8 x 23 1/2" Hahnemuhle Copperplate paper
Signed and numbered limited edition of 50
Printed and published by Gemini G.E.L. LLC, and given by the Artist and Gemini in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles and the Inland Empire
$ 2,500

100% of the proceeds from the sale of this print benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is very privileged to have the contribution of this limited-edition original, hand-printed etching, which is Toba Khedoori's very first print.  Khedoori's selection as the artist to celebrate the Big Brothers Big Sisters 50th anniversary was made by an arts committee that included internationally acclaimed artists Vija Celmins and Richard Serra, former MOCA Los Angeles Director, Richard Koshalek, MOCA curator Elizabeth Smith, Hammer Museum and former MoMA curator Gary Garrels, and prominent Los Angeles-area art collector Lenore Greenberg.  The committee was co-chaired by BBBS Board member Joni Moisant Weyl and her husband, Sidney Felsen of Gemini G.E.L.   Founded in 1966, Gemini is the most prestigious collaborative printmaking workshop in the country.

Khedoori is one of Contemporary Art's most talented rising stars. Of Iraqi descent, Khedoori was born in Sydney, Australia in 1964, and lives and works in Los Angeles.  She is an artist who depicts minimalism's 3-dimensional space on a 2-dimensional surface. Possessed of an enigmatic appreciation for the home, it's psychologically charged spaces and transcendental geometries, her subjects are man-made places and things: doors, rooms, furniture and buildings.  Her most classic images are drawings of singular objects with repeating patterns, such as the windows depicted in this print.

Khedoori was recently the recipient of the prestigious MacArthur Grant from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation.  She has had solo exhibitions at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, the St. Louis Art Museum, Whitechapel Art Gallery, London, the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, the Hirshhorn Museum, Washington D.C., and the Museum für Gegenswartskunst, Basel, Switzerland, among others. Khedoori's work is a part of many important national and international private and museum collections, including the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Whitney Museum of Art, New York; MOCA Los Angeles, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
